Reflections In Design Magazine's editorial integrity lies in its depth of open inquiry, commitment to interdisciplinary thought, and emphasis on exploring connections between design, utilization, and placement.

We appreciate the opportunity to consider solicited and unsolicited articles (written and videos) that resonate with Reflections In Design Magazine's design community throughout New England.

WRITTEN ARTICLES

Please submit your written articles in a format that is easy to read in Microsoft Word. Feel free to include a cover letter, but it is not necessary. Please list all members of the design team and include a short bio with a headshot for key members of the design process.

We do consider previously published work, but would prefer new and original work. Simultaneous submissions are welcome and encouraged, but if your work is accepted elsewhere, please let us know immediately.

By submitting, you verify that you are the Author of the submitted work, and that the Author grants Rights to the Reflections In Design Magazine for publication. Rights revert to the Author upon publication.

All images included in the submission article are the responsibility of the Author.  It is the Author’s responsibility to ensure that any images used in their submissions do not break international copyright law. The Author should pay photographers for third-party usage, and their name(s) should be submitted with their photographs.

Please NoteReflections In Design Magazine reserves the right to make copyediting changes to the article.

FORMATTING THE WRITTEN ARTICLE

The article should be prepared according to the following guidelines:

(1) The length of articles is usually no greater than 2,000 words but should not exceed 2,200 words, including an abstract and notes. An article exceeding the length limit will not be reviewed.

(2) At the beginning of the article, the title should immediately precede the text.

(3) All citations should be in endnotes and not in the text.

ACCEPTABLE FILE TYPES

Please submit texts in MS Word or Portable Document Format (PDF).

Images should be in .jpg or .tif format, supplied at 5” x 7” size, and at a minimum of 150 dpi.

Naming files: File names should include the last name of the author and the name of the project, plus a number in numerical order for a series of files. They may contain letters, numbers, hyphens (-), and underscores (_). Files must have the three-letter file extension identifying the file type (i.e. .pdf, or .doc). Example: JonesWickhamConservator_01.pdf

ILLUSTRATIONS, GRAPHIC ART, AND/OR PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES

Illustrations, graphic art, and/or photography are encouraged for all articles (if relevant) and should be provided as 150 or higher-resolution JPG digital images.

Each image should be referenced in the Word or PDF document with a suggested caption that credits the photographer.

Authors are fully responsible for providing visual material that complements their articles and meets Reflections In Design Magazine’s professional requirements. The editorial office does not provide graphic services. Careful attention to these guidelines should assure authors of visually effective articles.

CREDITS AND COPYRIGHT PERMISSION

Captions to images used in all articles must also include credits to photographers and artwork owners and, in the case of copyrighted material, the names of copyright holders. Authors are responsible for securing permissions to reprint copyrighted material. Before publishing material, they must supply original, signed documentation of this permission from the copyright holder(s) and photographers to the editorial office. Any fees required to secure copyright permissions or use of figures are the authors' responsibility.
